A Visit from Local Author Calvin Ramsey

On Tuesday, January 25, students in Primary School enjoyed a visit from local author Calvin Ramsey.  Ramsey wrote Ruth and the Green Book, a picture book about a little girl named Ruth who travels with her family from Chicago to Alabama during the days of segregation with the help of the "Green Book".  Ruth is a fictional character, but the "Green Book" in fact was a travel guide especially for African-Americans.   Fifth grade students from AIS also welcomed fifth grade students from Notre Dame Academy in Duluth, Georgia to join them in hearing Mr. Ramsey speak.  The students had many questions for Mr. Ramsey about the book and about the writing process.  They also shared their ideas about the book and about civil rights with Mr. Ramsey.
