International School Library Day - October 23, 2006

AIS primary school students in several English and French classes will be participating in a bookmark exchange with a partner school in Canada as part of our recognition of International School Library Day, October 23, 2006.

Our partner school is Ecole Elementaire Tomekichi Homma in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. Tomekichi Homma offers an English program and both an early French immersion program and a late French immersion program.

We are so excited about this exchange and look forward to receiving bookmarks and other information from Tomekichi Homma and to sending our bookmarks and information on to them.

For more about International School Library Day, go to the International Association of School Librarianship website.

New Books!

Click here for information on books (arranged by language) that are new to the library! You will find both fiction and nonfiction books listed. We will be updating this post monthly, so be sure to check back on a regular basis.

Suggested Reading by Unit of Inquiry

Here are some suggestions for independent reading related to the units of inquiry for this school year. If the book is a little challenging, I'll make a note of that. Also, if the book is little easier, I'll note that too. Teachers, please help me out with this post, especially with the books in languages other than English.

I hope the students have fun reading some of these books. Students, please let Mrs. Hermann know what you think about them!

Primary School Library Resources

Please take a look at the redesigned primary school library electronic resources link. You will notice that the primary school resources are listed separately from the secondary school resources, making it easier for primary school students to access the most useful K - 5 resources.

Our most exciting change from last year is in the number and quality of the electronic resources now available to us through our new resource GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online), a collection of excellent databases for the K-12 community.

Hey Junior Researchers - "Question of the Week" is Here

Hey all you information detectives! Find out more about the "Question of the Week". What are those questions posted on the board near Mrs. Hermann's office? What happens if you answer one of the questions? What (or who) is the best source of information about what "Question of the Week" is? Where is it (or she) located?
Can you locate and access the information you need? How will you use that information?

Welcome Back Primary School Students!

The school year is off to a great start here in the library. Please come see our changes from the summer - beautiful new chairs, a new projector and white board in the story room and lots of wonderful new books. We look forward to seeing you soon!
