Fall Book Fair Right Around the Corner!

Get ready for the Fall Book Fair! Annual favorite with AIS students, the book fair will be the first week of November in the library. Our parent co-chairs are busy planning a terrific fair based on the theme of "Destination Book Fair - Read Around the World" -- a theme that certainly works for our school! Volunteers are still needed. If you are interested in being a part of this fun event, please contact Jolie Fainberg at 404-579-0525. You are also invited to visit the Fall Book Fair webpage for more information!

Skype Visit with Cyd Moore!

Cyd Moore, illustrator of many children's books, "came" to talk with our third graders via video Skype last week. What a fun experience! Ms. Moore, who spoke with us from Michigan, captured the students' attention with her engaging presentation, including the opportunity to see various artwork she has done and how she works. She also shared her thoughts about the creative process and answered questions from students. Many thanks to Ms. Moore and to Peachtree Publishers for helping to arrange this visit!

Kindergarteners Work on Display

Grade 5K students have been learning about families and the 5K French students offered to share one of their recent projects with the library for display. We lined the shelf tops with colorful, inventive shoebox projects reflecting the diversity and commonality of the many families at AIS!

Paper Plate Projects by Third Grade

Recently third graders visited the library as part of a "hands on" day focused on keeping healthy. Students used the research process to inquire into the foods of various countries. Each student selected a region of the world and then used print and online resources to find information about the diet in a country from that region. Students presented the information by drawing the foods on a paper plate and attaching their research. The creativity shown in the presentations was terrific -- we may have some future chefs in the grade!
