First German Book Talk Week Held

Last week library staff member Hanni Fricke hosted special book talks in German for students in the Primary School German program. She shared books with students from first, second, fourth and fifth grades. Students also shared information with their classmates and library staff about favorite German books. Interest in the German fiction section is high and new German books will be on their way soon! The next German Book Talk Week will be after the fall break and the program will continue once a month through the school year.

New French Audiobooks

If you are in the French program or otherwise speak French, please take a moment next time you are in the library to look at our great new French audiobooks. We have many new French audio materials, including books by Daniel Pennac, Roald Dahl and others. Some of the audiobooks are checked out with a book. Others consist of the CD version only, but we have the books in our French collection. Parents, faculty and staff may check out audio-visual materials from the library.

Milner Award Ambassador Coming on October 4

Julia Prittie, the Milner Award Ambassador, will visit the AIS Library on October 4 to share fun stories about previous Milner Award winners, create excitement about this year's winner, Megan McDonald, and deliver ballots for voting on next year's winner. We hope that second, third and fourth graders will have the opportunity to meet Ms. Prittie and enjoy her presentation.

Megan McDonald, the winner of this year's Milner Award, is the author of the popular "Judy Moody" series. She will receive the award on October 22 at the Central Branch of the Atlanta-Fulton County Public Library and our fourth graders will be in attendance to hear her speak.

The Milner Award is voted on by the children of the City of Atlanta and Fulton County and is bestowed each year on the author who receives the most votes and is able to come receive the award. Previous winners have included Laura Numeroff, Jerry Spinelli, Judy Blume, Matt Christopher, Mary Pope Osborne and Lois Lowry.
