Library Volunteers

Last week, the library held a short orientation for parents interested in volunteering. Those who attended had the opportunity to go through a training PowerPoint and sign up for volunteer times. Some volunteers have already begun to give of their time to help shelving and processing books. This is an enormous task and we greatly appreciate all our volunteers and any amount of time they can share helping us and the students. Time is valuable and we value our parents' choice to share their time with the library.

Parents who would like to help but could not attend the orientation last week are welcomed to stop by the library and make an appointment with one of the staff members to learn about the library and to select a volunteer time. We still have need for more volunteers!

Parent Workshops to be Offered in October

Parent workshops on the library online resources that form a part of our "virtual library" for primary school students will be offered in October. Please look for a letter or a notice in the Headmaster's Bulletin outlining dates and times. These workshops have been very well received in years past and are revised and updated each year to include the new resources constantly being included. New this year are BrainPOPjr, Bookflix and expanded offerings through Britannica Online School Edition. Please come learn more by joining us at a morning workshop in October.

Accelerated Reader

Hey students -- remember Accelerated Reader? Well, we still have Accelerated Reader and each of you in grades 2 through 5 are already enrolled to begin taking quizzes! Keep listening for more information about the "reading challenge" for this year -- details coming soon.

We have lots of new books in English and Spanish that have AR quizzes. Look on the Primary School library website page under "Accelerated Reader" to find the link for the AR Bookfinder, where you can check to see if the book you are reading has a quiz.

Need more information or a quick reminder on how AR works? Click on the link to the right for "Reading Motivation Programs" or just ask me, Mrs. Hermann, and I will be happy to help you.
