AR Quizzing is a Easy on an iPad

Have you tried the new Accelerated Reader quizzing app?  Available through the iTunes app store, the AR app is free and enables you to take quizzes on your own device such as an iPad, iPhone or iTouch. You still must be at school to quiz, but the hours for quizzing have been extended and you can quiz anywhere on campus with your own device.  We think you will like this great new feature of our Accelerated Reader program.

Water - Not Glugging, but Glogging!

Grade 4 students created glogs to show their understanding of various water conflict issues in connection with their unit of inquiry on Sharing the Planet.  A glog is an interactive online poster.  Students incorporated text, images, graphics and websites into the glogs that they presented to classmates at the end of the unit.  Visit the Grade 4 library page to see several of the glogs in French, Spanish and German.

Thinking about Research - Using the Big6

Fifth grade students worked on posters of the Big6 research process to be used in the classroom and library.  The posters, in multiple languages, reflected the students' understanding of the "structure" of the process -  linear, circular, pyramidal or . . .   Have you ever thought about the shape of your thinking?

The Big6 is a research process copyrighted by Mike Eisenberg and Bob Berkowitz and is the process that has been adopted by the Primary School.

Library Catalog on a New Mac?

Students especially enjoy using the library catalog when they can do so on a shiny new Mac workstation!  Classes have come to the library for the first time this week and students are loving the changes - new computers, new library webpages, new shelving arrangements and, best of all, new books!  We are so excited to begin the new school year and have students back in the library!

First 3K Visitor to the Story Room!

Our first 3K visitor to the Story Room had a lovely time today reading Spanish books with her mom.  Lily and her mom Ashley learned about the color dot system for identifying books by language (yellow means Spanish) and Ashley opened a parent library account so that she could check out lots of books to read with Lily.  We were so excited to welcome one of our youngest students to the library!
